Let's Exercise That Brain

This is not really a new category here. We've had puzzles and riddles before, but now we are really going to challenge you.  You can go through life memorizing things, but if you don't learn how to think, then all you will ever know are the things you have memorized.

I was asked to help one of my friend's kids with multiplication over the summer because she had so much trouble with it.  It seemed her school really pushed flash cards and memorization and no matter how hard she tried and no matter how hard her mom tried, she just couldn't learn that way and the message never made it's way to her teachers.  I knew she was smart because we had worked together on other subjects.  All this poor kid needed was to know how and why multiplication worked and she was fine.  She wanted to think not just memorize. A simple times table showing the actual relationship was all she needed.  Her young mind  wanted to think too.

Trust me, you will need to know how to draw conclusions, flush out the distracters (non essential information) and know when the question is actually easier or harder than you think it is.

Life is not like that one hour drama where every detail is important and the problem is solved in 60 minutes minus commercials.  Wouldn't it be great if it was.  After years of Law & Order and ER, I think I could do it all .
