WikiPedia
What does the WIKI Mean?I was asked the other day at school if I knew what the Wiki in Wikipedia stood for. He said he had heard it stood for "What I Know Is" and he wanted to know if I had heard the same thing.
Anyway, we discussed that anyone could write anything on the internet just like I do, and that I have read things that were biased on Wikipedia articles. For instance, since I am studying to become a Lutheran and I had never learned much about Martin Luther, I found lots of interesting facts about him on Wikipedia. however the wiki-police, (my name not theirs) did put a notation on one article that it might be biased. But I like to hear both sides of things.
We also talked about how I was impressed that our school, while allowing the students to quote the internet, also insisted on print sources for papers. And I promised to check out his question about the "definition of Wiki. What I found on Wikipedia itself was very interesting. They are quite self critical so it's a credible source for me
Places on the internet like Wikipedia I think want to remain credible so people come there. It is in their best interest to keep it that way.
Nuf talking Here's the Wikipedia article
